How It All Began

Laura and Aleksandra meet in Cancun, Mexico by chance!

While enjoying possibly the best omelets of their lives and discussing their goals realize they can partner to bring Joy at Sea and all her friends to life, together!

Through our books, podcasts and products, we provide the compass that points them to JOY through both stormy seas and smooth sailings. Laura Fraser

Author, Creator and Podcast Host

With over two decades of experience in the cruise industry, Laura brings her creative storytelling abilities to Joy at Sea and Friends. Laura believes life’s biggest lessons can always bring us closer to Joy in our daily journey.

Aleksandra Jankovic

Illustrator and Design Director

Aleksandra has been an artist as long as she can remember. Drawing inspiration from her time as a crew member, she brings life and incredible expression to Joy, Sunny, Grace and Big Max. Her characters connect across generations. Aleksandra feels that traveling can open kids' eyes to a lifetime of learning and adventure.

Our Journey ⚓

From a small idea to a worldwide adventure

2003

Laura joined her first ship as crew to see the world. What was supposed to last a year began a lifelong love of the industry and corporate career.

2020

The world changed forever. The cruise industry stopped overnight. Like most in the industry Laura had to pivot her career.

2023

Laura takes her first cruise post pandemic industry shutdown with her family. While teaching her son to swim onboard with her husband and fellow former crew member Hayden, she gets the feeling the ship is happy to have people back onboard! The idea for Joy at Sea is born! Laura wonders who she can find to bring the illustrations to life…

2023

Aleksandra gets the opportunity to go work on ships with her Fiancé and fellow crew member Srdjan. She is excited to see the world and wonders how this adventure will change her life…

2024

Laura and Aleksandra meet in Cancun, Mexico by chance! While enjoying possibly the best omelets of their lives and discussing their goals realize they can partner to bring Joy at Sea and all her friends to life, together!

2025

From opposite corners of the world Laura works on the story of JOY and Aleksandra works on the illustrations. When Laura sees the first illustration, she is overJOYED with her!

2026

Joy at Sea is released. The Finding Joy at Sea Podcast is launched. The ABC’s at Sea cards are released.

2027

Sunny at Sea will be published and released

We believe travel and adventure help develop the imaginations of kids and adults alike!

Lifelong friendships are made when we travel and it's our family and friends that help us out when we are in rough waters.

Life is the ultimate adventure, and Joy is found in the journey.

Life will have hard lessons. Through Joy, Sunny, Grace and Big Max we learn that we can get through hard times.
